Shore entry. No boats. Just depth.

We drive to the dive site with the equipment: buoy, rope and bottom weight. You walk into the water from the shore, swim out, set your line at depth, and train. The instructor is in the water with you the whole time.

Dahab makes open water training straightforward. You reach good depth within minutes of entering the water, no boat and no long surface swim. Warm, calm and clear conditions that let you relax and focus on technique rather than fight the environment.

We use the pool regularly too, for static, dynamic and technique work. Having a clean 25m pool at The Gate Hotel means we can train there whenever it makes sense.

Frequently asked questions

Can I train in the pool?

Yes. Pool training in our own 25m pool is €35 per session, or €220 for a card of seven sessions. We use it for static, dynamic and technique work, and it runs year-round.

Do I need a certification to train with you?

Yes. AIDA 2, SSI Level 1 or an equivalent freediving certification, and you should be comfortable in open water. We dive the buddy system on every session, so there is no solo diving.

How long is a training session?

Two to three hours in the water, with a maximum of two divers per instructor. There is a drive to the site and a set-up before that, so keep a morning or an afternoon free rather than an hour.

What does a training session cost?

At the Lighthouse a single session is €45, or €40 per person when two of you book together. Two sessions are €80, or €70 per person as a duo. Equipment rental is €20 per session.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. A full set rents for €20 per session. If you bring your own, a 3 to 5mm wetsuit works year round here, and you will need your certification card.

Where do you train in Dahab?

Mostly the Lighthouse, a five minute drive from the center, which drops to 50 metres. Mashraba sits next to it and we pick between the two on the day. The Blue Hole is 20 to 30 minutes away and goes to 90 metres, with a $20 park fee per person per day on top of the session price.

What do I have to arrange myself?

Nothing on the water side. We drive to the site together with the buoy, the rope and the bottom weight, and you walk in from the beach. The pool is the only place where there is nothing to arrange.
